    @JMP

It is commendable that you asking the absent members to return but you should be asking the question, Why are they absent?

Mirza is an opportunist, a schemer, a planner and an insincere person. This Forum is better off without him.

Sajjad sahib, I think strict or nanny type moderation is not the answer to keep a discussion forum like this in an ascendant plane. I have been an active member of online forums since 2008 and do get this feeling in these years that it’s not the quantity of topics or the number of members / traffic flow that counts the most—surely in terms of getting noticed to advertisers this might work in some sort of financial boost, but the quality of discussions and innovative approach of interlocutors to deal with range of topics. Hence for me quality is a key and rarely could we see this strand being activated on such forums. The reason of this phenomenon could be cited on number of factors but that is a reality that we have to live with. Moderation for me is like the traffic sergeants, who could help to create discussions on course and to maintain them in the lanes of decency and civility and hence their role become redundant afterwards–at least in theoretic sense. It’s the matter of discussion flow, that how much they are linear, disciplined, articulated and stay within the bounds of accepted norms of decency. My own contention is that the owners of this forum should take some initial steps to make this forum more noticeable for the online traffic. The initiation of Blogs section is something that could be done in near future to allow the best writers of the forum to express their unique views on other range of topics. When I say best then it means best in strict terms in the beginning so that the forum can get its niche in the online world. Afterwards more writers could be accommodated to the panel of bloggers to engage in creative process of blogging. Engagement with intellectuals, opinion makers, politicians, members of civil rights groups etc. is something that could come next logically speaking in terms of engaging them in a separate Audio-Video / Vlog formats. Panel discussions is another dimension which attracts me the most in the cyber world and to be honest we can work on these lines to make this forum more vibrant and meaningful for the general public.

I wish the owner will read your post. You have said everything which needs to be said. Moderation is just one of the initial tools to guide and control the unruly participants. You are right about the quality and not quantity. The forum boasts  4271 threads and 60,500 posts. I did a mini exercise yesterday and found that out of 4258 threads 1074 (25%) did not have a response at all and almost all of these threads were initiated by using  external source without any contribution from the starter of the thread.  I have a feeling that if I extended this exercise to include threads with a maximum response of 1, the count will reach 50%.I think it demonstrates the Quantity v Quality concept outlined by you.

Your welcome, I am not in the administration but I don’t see people getting banned raising logical concerns. Attending, participating in a discussion is not mandatory. One can do it on their free will and time, this is why you are seeing a gap.

Agreed that attending and participating is not mandatory. Equally, applying for membership too is not. So, why so many who applied voluntarily do not return. This is a food for thought.

Then become one even your intentions were not that.

Show them how to do the job. Set an example for every one to see.

I am not persuaded by the argument It is not my job to do so. It is Atif’s job. If he would not do his own job, no one else would!

I don’t think there is shortage of Moderators but the existing Moderators need to be explained to as to what their role is. The owner who is also a Moderator in chief whenever he wants to be. He needs to set an example for others to follow. My repeated reminders have sometimes been interpreted as if I am angling to be a Moderator. It is far from the truth. I want the Forum to succeed and one of the ingredients is “good Moderation”.

We are happy with ourselves. That is precisely the problem and that is why good Moderation is essential because the Moderators carry the authority that Participants do not have.

Sajjad sb. Its all because there are very few active members who really contribute on the forum. So moderators tend to take it easy and they let the members figure out things among themselves. It is more like a bethak now.

Even in the days that Forum was very busy, the Moderators were themselves busy in “Luch Tal” rather than be vigilant and exercise discipline.Point taken about “Baithak” but even a Baithak has some un-written rules about manners and behaviour!

Where were and where are the Moderators? And then people will say they only see me criticizing. Part of the Forum improvement strategy should be good effective Moderation. Don’t you agree?

Thank you, I like it. This is how it should be. You have effectively told me off but without calling names. But then not every one has the art and knowledge. And yes, in my own little way I tried but without success.

I don’t think you can bracket me with other people you have mentioned.I think it is important that you also read my comment for Shami11. I understand the need for the light hearted comment but that does not mean that every thread after few serious comments has to face the same fate. There is Thread dedicated for this kind of activity “Mehfil”And yes, I agree that ideas should be assembled for Forum improvement. I had given some ideas to the owner and he indicated that some of my ideas were good but nothing was implemented. There does not seem to be any desire by the owner for an improvement.

    Hello Sajjad,

You will not be banned from this forum. Threads can be either sharing news, tweet, video or on the other hand your own words. The forum is not a formal place to engage someone in a discussion for a very long time.

I see your point in stats, do you think giving thanks, likes etc. is still a participation?

I am also sick of Luch Tal party, especially their gang leader from Quetta.

Thank you for assurance for not banning. I did not realise that you were that high up in the Administration. The reason for “engaging someone in discussion for a long time” is that there are not enough active members. There are 137+ registered members but only 25+ log in (participate or not). Why this huge gap? Is it possible that registered members when visit the forum do not see anything interesting?

The General will not understand the intricacies of national economy and its inter-action with international economy and politics. And therefore should keep his counsel and speak on the subject on which has (hopefully) the expertise. These days it has become fashionable for the Generals to host press conferences to promote their public profile and unfortunately the media obliges. There was a time one saw the General’s photograph and speech in the print media on the Kakul Academy passin out paradae which was once a year!

Definition of Pakistan for all politicians and so called religious leaders starts from the front door and finishes at the back wall of their homes. That is the tragedy.
