    Shirazi sb,
I’m a registered democrat who voted for Biden during the primaries, and if I have to express Kamala Harris in one sentence, I would say this:

    She is a phony!

Don’t get me wrong, she is a shrewd politician; that is, she is artful, clever, and sagacious, but at the same time, she is ambitious and can do anything to get to the top. It’s a good quality to have, especially in a power game. But, when I hear her talk, she doesn’t appear genuine but rather artificial. When you hear Obama, you get the feeling that he is not only eloquent in describing certain principles but he also believes in them. With Kamala, I get the vibes that she is only saying that because it helps her in her political career.

I wish Biden hadn’t picked her as his running mate. But he was cornered by the Black Big Guns in the Democratic Party to pick a black women. After all, let’s face it, Biden was a dead man walking after the New Hampshire’s primary. Jim Clyburn, considered by many as the Black Kennedy of South Carolina, endorsed him before the South Carolina primary. That endorsement alone not only brought a big win but also boosted Biden’s credentials, and he ended up outnumbering Bernie Sanders in the rest of the states. After a huge vote of confidence by the black voters, who are considered as a base of the Democratic Party, Biden was under tremendous pressure to name a black person as his VP.

As Biden said himself, Kamala checked the most boxes; that is, she has the least baggage when considering other alternatives. I personally liked Susan Rice, the former National Security Adviser and UN Ambassador, but she had some skeletons in her past. Ben-Ghazi stumble was one but she and her husband possessed good number of shares in companies vying for the Keystone Gas Pipeline project. That’s a big negative for any democrat especially in the liberal wing of the party. On top, Susan Rice had never run for any office before.
Other black VP hopefuls had even more scars.

Another interesting thing is that during the primary debates, Kamala Harris continuously hit Biden, and most of the time, below the belt. I mean she was atrocious, and Biden was taken aback by some of her vicious attacks. Normally, below the belt attacks come from the other party during general elections. For example, pulling a race card on Biden, based on his past voting record, was nothing but ludicrous. Also, when a couple of women came forward and claimed that Biden inappropriately touched them in the past, what was Kamala’s response to that?
    “I believe them”, she said.

Biden is not a racist or a groper; he is an old-timer and during and after Me Too era, every male, including Biden, has to be careful how they approach women. But, never the less, the personal attack was unfair.

So imagine how Fox News would have a field day by running video clips of Kamala Harris about Biden.

I read a story in Politico that when Biden’s team was interviewing potential VP candidates, they asked Kamala how she felt with regards to those mean attacks on Biden. According to the sources, she just laughed out saying it was just politics. So, if Biden’s team was looking for a remorse, they weren’t getting it.

If Biden was looking for loyalty, he didn’t pick the best person from the lot.
I do believe that odds are in Biden’s favor to turn the table on Trump this November. He is ahead by 10 points. Of course, polls were saying similar things that Hillary would win but that didn’t happen. Hillary had some personal negatives, or maybe American’s weren’t ready for the first woman president but Biden is a typical white man, and is expected to perform better than Hillary in the Midwestern states that are crucial for his victory. So, we have a good enough chance to see a minority VP getting elected this year.

Having said that, we all have an idea that Biden is 77, and he is unlikely to run for a second term. That means Kamala Harris, a sitting VP, would instantly move to the front of the pack seeking the Democratic Party nomination four years from now. Regardless of a Biden win or loss this November, Harris will be the number one contender for the next presidential election, and that’s a big deal for her.

If you had told me four years ago that, after centuries of male dominance in US politics, the first history-making women to break that taboo would be Kamala Devi, I wouldn’t have believed that. Not even for a second.  But now it seems like a real possibility.

Kamala got little lucky with all #BLM stuff. She will be even more lucky if she wins and then Biden couldn’t complete full term and she is elevated to President. Andrew Cuomo was a good candidate but Biden announced female pick little too early in the game.
