GHQ patiently waited for two decades for this day when Americans would leave and Taliban can take over Kabul again. Pakistan sheltered Afghan Talibans and faced lot of backlash from Afghanistan and America backed TTP. But Pakistan didn’t change their good and bad Talibans policy. Now after 20 years when Talibans are on the verge of taking Kabul back, there is not much excitement in Pakistan. People are concerned it will bring terror back in Pakistan. I understand we will have refuge influx and seriously doubt if TTP will be revived at least in near future.

    Thoughts?

Thanks for initiating discussion on this interesting and concerning topic. In my humble opinion, revival of Taliban power would create upheaval in this region and perhaps at global level. I don know if Pakistan has any role in this or not and if Pakistan has any role, it may create further problems. I am of the opinion that Pakistan often has embarked on adventurous journeys which are beyond its capability, size and interests.

Taliban rise could also create problems in KP province as it may trigger actions and reactions from pro and anti Taliban forces in KP.

I think it’s too late. We used to support the Taliban in secret, and now we are in the open. Taliban flags have been flown from Quetta to FATA, sweets are being distributed in madrassas, three blasts in two days, soon this monster will turn towards Pakistan

I am against Talibans, good or bad. Even the good Talibans are bad for Afghanistan due to their repressive policies. But if you recall during their term, 1996-2001, they created havoc in Afghanistan but Pakistan was relatively peaceful. 80k people died in Pakistan after 911 because we were harboring these Talibans. There was no way these Talibans would have survived w/o GHQ support and I suspect that is still the case. Having a friendly regime in Kabul is good for GHQ , wish I could say something about Pakistan. We will have lot more refuges but law and order situation shouldn’t go back to post 911 era

I don’t think there will be any disturbance in Pakistan due to Taliban taking over in Afghanistan. Taliban are not facing any resistance and within weeks they will control Kabul as well. Every player including USA will have to deal with Taliban now. Pakistan will be in better position now that Taliban will have soft corner for Pakistan rather than India. We will be worry free from our Afghan border now which was firing from all cylinders last 20 years. All Pakistan need a take good care of our border for possible infiltration from Afghanistan and complete border fence work already in construction. This new Taliban regime will be much different and they will prove them much more mature than Mulla Umar’s era. I am hoping a stable Afghanistan under Taliban and worry free Pakistan from western borders.

Shami Bhai don’t worry, TTP will not activate again. The only ambition of Afghan Taliban is to take over Afghanistan and I don’t think they have any thoughts of any attempts to take control of Pakistan. TTP was supported by USA/India/Israel and at least USA will have not much interest in this region anymore. USA will likely try to strengthen them within Afghanistan by dealing with Taliban and offering investments. I don’t see any destabilisation in Pakistan near future. As I have said earlier we just need to tight our western border security and complete fence along border. Our best bet is to watch for now and don’t move.
