That’s not a complete picture about Muslims obsession with their past. Fact of the matter is, the modern western world till this day is pretty much attached to their ancestors of Ancient Greece and Rome.

Many of the notations, scientific symbols and lexicon of social sciences in modern Western corpus still use Greek symbols, Latin origin terminologies and to top it off the political system of Ancient Rome is still been glorified and revered by the western intellectuals and policy makers.

There is no issue with Muslims around the world if they have fixated the gaze on their glorified past of Khilafats and Sultanates. One of the big problems being the lack of effort and endeavor to adopt progressive, secular and scientific thought which proving to be the undoing of all of the Muslim dominant states of the current world.

When the stalwarts of Muslim thought like Ibn Sina, Al Razi, Ibn Rushd, Imam Al Ghazali, Ibn Arabi, Ibn Khaldun and others are rediculed or their seminal works are being continuously ignored by the same so called followers of Islamic faith then effectively there’s nothing left to build upon on any other firm Islamic intellectual foundation that those giants provided centuries ago.

The Muslims and their so called intelligentsia are preposterous hypocrites and intellectually lazy to embark on the path of serious scientific and revolutionary thought process and thus are in a state of mess where they have been wallowing for many centuries now.

Adhering to their values, clinging to their glorious past and remembering their heroes is no way detrimental to their present and future. However, as Brethawk put it, its their lethargy , lack of commitment and laziness  which have placed them in their current state of affairs .

The past isn’t holding them back to be progressive , ambitious and self reliant. It is their collective failure of the leadership which has held them back and kept them slaves.  But as is always, the things will get to their proper position as this is what the justice is .

Nice word salad but it is full of confusion. You are blaming Muslim leadership for current state of affairs of Muslims while invoking names like Al Razi.

Here is what Al Razi really thought:

Most prominent among those scholars was Abu Bakr al-Razi (865-925 CE) who believed in the supreme importance of reason. He argued that the mind had an innate capacity to distinguish between good and evil, and between what was useful and what was harmful. According to him, the mind did not need any guidance from outside it, and for this reason the presence of prophets was redundant and superfluous.

Al-Razi directed his most vehement attack against the holy books in general, including the Qur’an, because he saw them as illogical and self-contradictory. He also believed that all human beings were equal in their intellectual capacities as they were in all other things. It made no sense therefore that God should single out one individual from among them in order to reveal to him his divine wisdom and assign him the task of guiding other human beings. Furthermore, he found that prophets’ pronouncements and stories often contradicted those of other prophets. If their source was divine revelation as is claimed, their views would have been identical. The idea of a divinely-appointed mediator was therefore a myth.

    Source

How can Islamic countries allow such thinking to flourish in their midst?

You also mentioned Ghazali and Ibn Rushd, two had completely opposing views and infact they were opponents. Ghazali eventually did gain an upper hand and his critique of logic and reasoning prevailed amongst Islamic empire leading eventually to its demise.

Future is bleak for the slaves of religion. It belongs to those who question their long held beliefs snd have with the ability to reject them.

Ignoramus masquerading as intellectuals ( SAIT ) amongst Muslims are more detrimental than an ignorant molvi on a pulpit. Being educated means having an ability to change ones mind when presented with evidence contrary to his beliefs. But unfortunately, Muslim have been fed so much nonsense in the name of metaphysics that their condition is almost incurable.

There was a study done by Stanford on human being’s  ability to change their mind in presence of facts contradicting their beliefs, the results were rather interesting.

Even after the evidence “for their beliefs has been totally refuted, people fail to make appropriate revisions in those beliefs,” the researchers noted. In this case, the failure was “particularly impressive,” since two data points would never have been enough information to generalize from.

    Source

Now imagine how hard it is to change the mind of people who have been fed mythological stories (of virgin birth, night journey, seven heavens etc.) for 1400 years?

West rejected religion and gained an upper hand via science and rational thinking. Unlike Muslim buffoons, western academics don’t use science and rational to justify how Mary could’ve really given birth to a baby without an intercourse Or how Jesus turned in to entangled particles and shot out of this universe traveling through worm holes.

The Eastern nations in general and the Muslim nations in particular, are backward and dependent because they are still entangled in the outdated beliefs and illusions of agrarian society. Western societies are today benefiting from the blessings of philosophy, science and the humanities they are not entangled in outdated beliefs of Greek and Romans…. The arena where roman slaves fight for life and death is gone but muslims are still entangled to arabs

The Jew named Philo was the first to mold the religious beliefs of the Jews into Greek philosophy and provide rational justifications for religious beliefs. Later, Christian and Muslim thinkers also began to justify their own religious beliefs. The translations of Greek books caused a stir in the Islamic world, and the mullazation defended Islam with rational arguments. And formulated the principles of theology. Among Muslims, Razi and Ghazali have become famous theologians. After Razi and Ghazlis Fatwa on famous atheist scientis like Ibn Seena fanatis muslims burn books of this great man. and know muslims are backward because of Ghazali because he openly opposed Philosphy and science

    Lol.

Actually west detached themselves from their past (dark ages), henceforth setting the stage for their eventual rise. No one in the west glorifies Charlemagne and Papacy, they are in fact a target of ridicule and insult.

Muslims on the other hand love discussing the short lived golden age yet totally ignore the reasons for its downfall.

There is no glorious past of Muslims, it is a complete farce.

I can see how word Glorious bit you and made you bitter. West couldn’t be proud of their dark ages.  When civilization was in full swing in East and specially in Baghdad, the peasants of west were throwing feces at houses and streets while walking .The so called western civilization’s root lay itself from the offshoot of ancient Greece ,Rome , while they were also built on the civilization of Egypt and Mesopotamia. There was no option for west but to quit the relationship with those peasants attitude and their culture.

While you may not like it but it is a fact that Muslims have a past which can be proud of . There is absolutely nothing wrong with discussing the Glorious past , However, I agree that their present should be better than their past . Which unfortunately isn’t the case . And there are reasons beyond which you could even fathom.

You keep regurgitating same confused gobbledygook which has been pedalled by Muslim apologists for centuries.

There is no glorious past of Islam, it has nothing to show except a book full of plagiarized ancient mythologies and savage laws of pagan Arabia.

And I am really shocked at how incredibly dense Muslims are when it comes to any introspection. They just can’t see the glaring burden of Islam holding them back. Muslims blame everything for their downfall instead of the actual root cause of their malady i.e. Islam. Whatever little they achieved was not because of Islam but despite Islam.

While the rest of the world enters new era of enlightenment and progress, Muslims keep navel gazing and staring at the magical book of smoke and mirrors for inspiration. But alas! that book is nothing but a hodgepodge of nonsense suitable only for subduing gullible cretins of 7th century Arabia.

You can’t even understand a simple point that Ghaazali and Ibn Rushd etc were at the opposite end of the theological spectrum? One cannot simply follow both of them, infact the eventual rise of Ghazalian point of view in the Islamic world led to its demise. Following Ibn Rushd and Al Razi would have spawned a true Islamic golden age, but sadly a knucklehead Mullah like Ghazali gained the upper hand and look where you are today!

Diversity in any religion , sect or cast is always better than focusing on one point . Theocracy is not something which is followed in true Islamic meaning .There never existed a hierarchy in  Islam as someone is trying very hard to define Islam by it.   It is those who constantly trying to nitpick the shortfalls and trying hard to find the loopholes who are really interested to define the Islam by the traditional hierarchy Christianity where the Revelation is changed on annual basis and still managed to stamp the book as word of God.

I bet you even if the majority had adopted your choice of school of thought , you would have still be out here criticizing it and targeting the religion . I am not trying to reform you or anyone , but I don’t like when you deform the Islam by picking and choosing what you like and how you like to define it.  You should try to form some sort of  movement by gathering your kind of Sympathizers of Islam , I know one in Toronto, Tarik Fateh  and his Mosque of queers , up north from Toronto. You both can go hands in hand.

Diversity without tolerance is as good as a tit on the bull. Islam is an extremely intolerant religion, which makes it very oppressive towards others. Even the sects of Islam are intolerant toward each other. It is a symptom of this malady called Islam. This diversity of sects is not beautiful but rather ugly and scary.

Islam most obviously follows theocracy, a Caliph’s role is defined by the example of first 4 righteous Caliphs. Mullahcracy and King ship blended in one is theocracy. Islam didn’t need a hierarchy, it’s a system of warlords governed by an overlord called Caliph.

I am not trying to redefine Islam, I am merely diagnosing the problem with Muslims. Islamic thought has been in a state of stagnation for past 1000 years. It need to addressed immediately otherwise Muslim will fall behind everyone else.

I don’t have a particular school of though, I left the circus of Islam a long time ago. Religion is the opium of the masses, I would rather indulge in real opium than the cheap addiction of religion.

You are hell bent trying to solve the mystery of Islam  No one is born here yesterday .. And no one is interested in your lop sided diagnoses of religion , let alone paying any attention to the figment of your imagination .
