My suggestion was very far fetched, even countries like Canada is just going through the phase of legalizing weed and it’s facing a huge backlash.
Cigarettes can be taxed heavily, a pack of cigarettes is $16 in Canada, most of it is tax. Collecting tax in Pakistan needs a huge investment in the financial infrastructure i.e.
Digitizing payment systems so that money trail can be tracked is key in enforcing tax collection.
Providing easy banking to people so that they open accounts in the banks rather than stashing it under their mattress.
Introducing an easy credit rating system to make borrowing easy etc.
Providing solid financial vehicles to people so they invest within the country.
A very strong and competent FBR that can plan and implement an efficient social security system which includes each and every citizen.
There are a thousand ways to evade tax in Pakistan for rich people. All it needs is a political will and an equivocal support from across all poltical parties. How can you get support from Chor tubber, Daku Zardari, incompetent Generals, land mafia, transport mafia, sugar mafia etc when they all gain from this system? This is the actual challenge.
